What is FSC® certification? And how does FSC® certification matter?

Deforestation has been one of the biggest concerns for some time now. Fires, harsh agricultural
practices, wood exploitation and cattle farming are some of the most serious causes of deforestation that lead to climate change and destroy biodiversity.

A promise to sustainable design and engineering principles not only helps companies to do their part to save the Earth for future generations, but it can be a treasured tool to reduce functioning costs while ensuring customer loyalty.

What is the FSC® Certification?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) is a Non-governmental and not-for-profit organization, established in 1993 with an aim to safeguard forest management and protect the rights and health of forest farmers around the world. FSC® is probably the only universal forest management certification organization to have the authority to control uncertified timber from FSC® branded products.

FSC® promotes ethical forestry laws and regulations, protecting forests from deforestation or from harmful pesticide usage. Thus, constructing more sustainable, environmentally-friendly, wood yields in the long-run.
The crucial tasks of the FSC® include:

  1. Accreditation of certificates and FSC® national/international initiatives
    2.  Labeling of wood products
    3.  Development of new standards

On purchasing certified wood products, the wood is assured to come from sustainably managed forests based on social, economic and environmental standards.

With FSC®’s supervision, manufacturing companies involved in the production of finished or semi-finished wood products are able to protect themselves against a series of situations, such as timber that is illegally felled. In short, this certification allows companies diminish the risk of
buying inferior-quality wood.

The FSC® takes precautions to make sure forests are grown and harvested adhering to eco- friendly practices and to encourage sustainability across the world.

Why should you consider FSC® certified wood products? FSC® Certification is considered the benchmark designation for wood harvested from forests
that are reliably managed, socially beneficial, globally conscious and economically feasible.

The FSC® chain-of-custody certification confirms that FSC®-approved wood products are identified and separated from the non-certified and unverified material throughout the supply chain, from forest to the marketplace.

Just like other organic products, there is an increased interest in the production and marketing of certified products, especially for FSC® certified wood.

FSC® certified wood is converted from sustainably managed forests, which assures the use of lumber that meets the social and environmental requirements. The traceability of raw materials and intermediate goods from forest to the consumer, enhancement of production procedures, and
communication to the public is another benefit of FSC® intervention.

There has been a tremendous increase in the number of buyers of FSC® certified or qualified products. This will also lead to greater recognition of this market, with independent certification becoming an increasingly credible way to convey a robust environmental policy.

Making an investment on FSC® certified doors is supporting the cause of protecting the planet and the forests that prosper in it.

Know who you’re buying from and give future generations a cleaner, more prosperous world.
