Frequently Asked Questions
When it comes to building safety and compliance, fire rated doors are a vital feature in both residential and commercial properties across Sydney. At Radiant Enterprise, we supply and install doors that meet strict Australian standards, giving you confidence in the safety and durability of your building.
Below, we’ve answered the most common questions about fire rated doors.
What is considered a fire-rated door?
A fire-rated door is a specially designed door that can withstand the spread of fire and smoke for a set period of time, typically 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours, depending on its rating.
At Radiant Enterprise, our fire doors are made from E-Core and come fully certified, ensuring they meet Australian safety requirements. Unlike standard doors, fire-rated doors are installed with fire-resistant frames, seals, and hardware to ensure the entire assembly provides the required level of protection.
Which doors should be fire-rated?
Fire-rated doors are usually required in:
- Multi-storey apartments and residential complexes
- Office buildings and commercial facilities
- Hospitals, schools and public buildings
- Industrial sites and warehouses
Essentially, any area where fire compartmentalization is necessary, such as stairwells, corridors, plant rooms or between different building sections, should have a certified fire-rated door installed.

What’s the difference between FD30 and FD30S?
In Australia, fire-rated doors are generally certified for 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours of fire resistance, rather than the FD30/FD60 ratings commonly used in the UK and Europe.
The principle is the same: the rating indicates how long the door can resist fire. Some doors are also fitted with smoke seals to prevent smoke leakage, which is just as critical as fire resistance during an emergency.
What is the standard for fire-rated doors in Australia?
In Australia, fire-rated doors must comply with AS1905.1 – Components for the protection of openings in fire-resistant walls. This standard specifies how doors are manufactured, tested, and installed to ensure they provide the required fire resistance.
Before being installed, each fire-rated door must be certified, labelled, and installed with matching fire-rated hardware to maintain compliance.
How do I check if my door is fire-rated?
There are a few ways to confirm if your door is fire-rated:
- Look for a certification label or metal tag: this is usually found on the hinge side of the door and also on the frame.
- Check the construction: Radiant Enterprise fire doors are made from E-Core, giving them strength and fire resistance.
- Inspect the seals: fire-rated doors will have intumescent seals that expand when exposed to heat.
- If you’re unsure, it’s best to have a qualified installer or inspector assess your doors.
